Taking the perfect snap is just step one when it comes to iPhone photography for bloggers. You’ve read through 10 iPhone Photography Tips For Bloggers, mastered your composition and angles, and now it’s time to pick your best shot to upload to Instagram, share on Twitter or anchor to your newest blog post.

Editing photos on your iPhone has come a long way since Instagram only had a few filters (and Valencia was everyone’s favourite!). You could browse the App Store for hours to find the perfect editing app – and potentially pay a couple of pounds for the privilege – or you could simply follow these tips to add the finishing touch to your newest iPhone photo.

1. Make it cohesive. If you’re uploading your photos to Instagram, you might want to keep your grid consistent. Even if your photography subjects are vastly different, a similar or identical editing style can really stamp your personality and your brand all over your social media. Apps such as VSCO or Afterlight offer pre-set editing “recipes” – apply these to all your photos to quickly create a clear ‘brand’ for your work.

2. Personalise your edits. There’s no rulebook for photo editing. Well, there probably is, but we’re not going to adhere to it when it comes to iPhone photography. Have a favourite colour? Apply it as a light wash across all of your photos. Are you a whiz when it comes to graphic design? Doodle over the top of your favourite photos. It’ll add a personal touch that will resonate with your followers.

3. Don’t overdo it. Are you guilty of Facetune-ing a selfie so hard that you don’t even look human any more? Tone down on dramatic edits – your followers would rather follow you for your authenticity, not for how white you can edit your teeth. Upping the contrast, exposure and saturation is a great place to start for vanity purposes – and if in doubt, black and white.

4. Get inspiration. Websites such as Pinterest are full of pre-sets for various editing apps – these will show you examples of photos with the same editing “recipe” applied, as well as numerical instructions so you can experiment with the same effects.

5. Experiment with your aesthetic. You won’t know what you like until you try it. Your photos could stand out above others if you try something zany – try some neon colours if you blog about video games or film, for example; or dreamy pastels if you’re a beauty blogger.

Above all, just try something new. Instagram and other platforms are flooded with crisp white backgrounds and perfect poses. Break out a little bit and watch your page views thank you for it.
